The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1500 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

Your responsibilities

  • Securing the suppliers to deliver right quality by both assessing and securing the suppliers production and quality processes.
  • Working closely in collaboration with technical department to assure the correct and clear quality expectations are set to our suppliers.
  • Supporting and initiating quality related activities together with Category Cluster Teams.
  • Managing supplier Nonconformities (containment action, corrective actions and Root Cause Analysis). All quality deviations will be channeled thru the SQE that will ensure that right corrective actions will be initiated, closed and followed up.
  • Initiating and monitoring relevant KPIs. Owning supplier results as measured by key metrics and drive improvements utilizing Supplier scorecards.
  • Responsible for driving Quality for assigned suppliers, improving quality performance via Quality plan implementation.
  • Driving supplier selection through a robust qualification process. The SQE will also manage supplier qualification process, including review and assessment of suppliers’ qualification documents and perform on-site audits with both assessing suppliers’ capabilities and capacity.
  • The responsibility of external supplier audit during supplier development are also included in the role.
  • Early involvement in projects and product development is essential to minimize risks.
  • Working closely with key suppliers to develop a lean and quality culture to drive continuous improvement in quality, delivery and cost.
  • Planning, Execution and Follow up of Surveillance Audits (Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement).
  • Leading Supplier Quality Reviews to drive Continuous Improvement.
  • Support Supplier claim management process.
  • Establishes clear and transparent communication internally, externally, and between different Divisions, Business Units and Functions and supports the implementation of PL activities and initiatives in the Region/Country through this clear communication.

Your background

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Mechanical engineering or any related discipline.
  • Minimum 5-8 Years od experience in Quality engineering functions focusing on supplier development and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Strong analytical skills are heavily preferred – especially for data analysis proven experience of using different tools like; failure analysis, FMEA (Failure Modes & Effects Analysis), FMECA (Failure Modes, Effects, & Criticality Analysis), test engineering, and/or product reliability is a plus.
  • Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications – especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Six Sigma, Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance Analysis. Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, 4Q, DMAIC, Gemba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.),Examples of executed projects for quality and continuous improvement based on Quality Planning and Lean Six Sigma. Familiarity with ISO-9001 standards is a plus (expertise in QS-9000 will also be considered).
  • Green Blet certification (desired).
  • Capable to lead technical conference calls, read drawings and procedures in English. Demonstrated technical aptitude and a passion for quality.
  • Team player with strong communicative and collaborative skills who likes to interact with other people.
  • Exposure to a multicultural and challenging global business environment and can handle several tasks in parallel.
  • Energetic, motivated and self-confident person who can handle both ups and downs and manage problem that may occur.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance [QA] and/or Quality Control [QC] in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
