JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position: Engineering Manager
Location: Bangalore, KA-India
Job Purpose
Supervision and technical direction to salaried, and management personnel engaged in design, development or research activities for Gensets related to a single technology, component, product, or process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.
Job Duties
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one geographic location. The supervision role accounts for up to 100% of this assignment. The remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well. The incumbent needs to coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical.
Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Ability to draw upon the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Motivating Others, Developing Others, and Listening. Ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies.
The incumbent would set strategy at the section level. The section would solve problems for a single technology, component, product, or process.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or sub-product, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding.
Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of product technology and process and the customers’ business and needs.
To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting a single product, process, or factory.
Decisions may also affect warrantees, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency.
Key skills and Knowledge requirement:
- Proven technical leadership
- Experience of Diesel / Gas genset or similar automobile/machine products design, development, testing and certifications.
- Understanding of International standards like UL2200, UL489
- Technical Experience working on electrical components like Alternator, Controllers, harnesses etc.
- Must be a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills
Required Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineering degree with 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Master’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience Or, PHD with 6 to 8 years of relevant experience
