Dow has an opening for a Process Automation Engineerin the Technical Expertise and Support (TES) Process Automation Technology group in Chennai, India. The successful candidate will apply technical knowledge to provide automation solutions for chemical process equipment and unit operations within the Dow Industrial Solutions, Advanced Polymers and Performance Monomers facilities globally. You will perform hands-on control configuration and code development work for small, intermediate, or large projects. Success in the role requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the process automation discipline. 

The initial project assignments within this role will include DCS migration work, and small projects with future opportunities for other types of process automation project work.

About you

You are a process automation professional, skilled in control strategy development and implementation. You are a team player with strong initiative. You work with plant personnel and process control team members to understand and document requirements, develop high quality control code, complete simulation testing and operator training. You may also support commissioning and startup. You work with the team to optimize plant operations through process control improvements.

You can complete each of the following tasks with proper training and support:

  • Applies Global Project Methodology (GPM) and Process Automation Work Process Discipline.
  • Ensures that the project scope is well defined and meets the business needs in a cost effective manner.
  • Ensures that the process automation is safe, meets DOW LPP’s and other EH&S requirements.
  • Drives project execution within the discipline.
  • Provides input to project schedule and plans, then monitors progress against the plans.
  • Ensures discipline design deliverables for the discipline meet the needs of the project: functions as intended, on time and within budget.
  • Identifies technical problems and appropriately engages the business technology center and SME network to resolve.
  • Programs control applications for various distributed control systems. Writes simulation applications in order to verify functionality of the control program and for training plant operators.
  • Participates in project commissioning and startup activities, including tuning of control loops.
  • Develops knowledge and skills in all aspects of Process Automation.
  • Obtains basic knowledge of unit operations and Chemical Engineering fundamentals.
  • Opportunities to work on a variety of control system platforms long term.
  • Opportunities to work on projects for different geographies / locations long term.

Required Qualifications for Dow jobs

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Process automation, engineering, manufacturing, or related experience

Your Preferred Qualifications include:

  • Prior experience with project execution and plant support preferred
  • Prior experience working with the Emerson Delta V process control platform strongly preferred
