AMETEK JOB OPENING FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

AMETEK  JOB OPENING FOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Amptek is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture, and sale of radiation detection components used in X-ray and gamma-ray detection. These are used primarily in X-ray spectroscopy, for analytical chemistry in laboratory and portable applications, and in nuclear and space research.

Amptek’s Electrical Design Engineer will have a direct, hands-on impact on products shipped globally to solve important problems in materials analysis. We are seeking a talented Electrical Engineer to design, develop and test signal processing electronics used in Amptek’s radiation spectroscopy products. This includes design of mixed signal circuits and PCB layout, and design of data acquisition products using FPGAs and microcontrollers with embedded software. This position will involve both new product development and support of existing products. The Electrical Engineer will work remotely with a tight group of engineers of mixed skills and experience levels. An ability to contribute in multiple manners will be expected. Interactions with production and quality staff will increase as experience is gained. This position requires a background and experience in electrical engineering, analytical and quantitative skills, the ability to work both independently and on a team, and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

o Develop prototype circuit designs related to topics of low noise analog amplifiers, high voltage supplies, AD/DA conversion, and noise suppression/filtering.

o Create schematic capture of designs self- generated and provided by team members. Update existing schematics for accuracy and convert schemes to new tools.

o Produce new and modify existing PCB layouts for fabrication and production. Interact with contract manufacturers to resolve issues as they arise.

o To research and specify components required in new products, test fixtures, or needed to replace existing selections in addressing part obsolescence or shortages. Must be capable of constructing and maintaining BOMs.

o Document designs and revisions while adhering to good industry practice.

o Develop small-scale software or firmware needed test engineering parts or conduct experiments related to electronics development.

o Bench test boards and circuit designs to evaluate performance and debug issues.

o Work with mechanical designers to design enclosures, feedthroughs, cable assemblies, etc. as part of detector-plus-electronics assemblies.
