Primary purpose of the position: (Describe the scope of the position)

Shift Chemical process Engineer is key member of shift operation team and his primary role is to ensure optimum operation of Washer, UVBRC, Waste water plant and ancillary Equipment in can making line. He will focus on Daily operation, process and maintenance issues of Washer, UVBRC, waste water treatment plant and ancillary equipment and take corrective actions on time. He will gain mastery in Process troubleshooting and maintenance of Washer, UVBRC, Waste water plant. He will in collaboration with Shift Manager, maintenance supervisor, Quality team, Maintenance Engineers, Electrical engineers, spare parts stores and co-ordinate all the activities of Maintenance, improvements, TPM, 5’s activities in the area. He will strive hard to achieve area KPI’s through collaboration, teamwork and planning. He will play key role in size changeovers and achieve best in class changeover time in the area.

Essential Responsible Areas: (Describe the key responsible areas)

  • Operation of washer, UVBRC and Utilities Equipment during his shift on optimum operation conditions. Makes action plan / corrective plan and gets the equipment back in optimum operating conditions.
  • Daily Operation of RO Plant, DI Water plant. Does backwash, polishing, regeneration in water treatment plant.
  • Conducts Daily Preventive maintenance checks and walk through audits in utilities and waste water treatment plant. Conducts preventive Maintenance activities Washer, UVBRC and Utilities. Conducts predictive Maintenance techniques in Washer and ancillary Equipment as requested by engineering resources.
  • Logs down observation / daily report in log book and highlight the actions and support needed.
  • Responsible for Washer chemical consumption, soluble oil and water consumption in the washer and ancillaries. Tracks and takes corrective actions for deviations.
  • The responsible ancillary equipment for operation and maintenance include washer boiler, coolant system, DI water, RO system, Waste water treatment system, Compressor, vacuum pump and scrap system.
  • Checks and control critical process parameters / indicators in washers, and takes timely actions to highlight and correct it.
  • Responsible for corrective Maintenance on washers / Utilities Equipment during his shift.
  • Plan for spareparts. Study the spareparts needed for the Equipment forehand and plan the spares on time. Gives input to Maintenance supervisor / Spareparts stores engineer to set Minimum / maximum of spareparts used in the Equipment. Works closely with spareparts stores to arrange for spareparts.
  • Tracks and controls the consumable items consumption (such as filters, oils etc.).
  • Responsible for smooth operation of waste water treatment plant in his shift.
  • Tracks the outlet water quality, chemical consumption and manage the daily operation of waste water plant through contractors.
  • Responsible for Size changeovers in washer. Does Size change within specified time and up in running smoothly with least issues.
  • Follows and maintain organization’s SOPs and safe working practices. Comply with any legal, environmental and safety , BRC requirements and/or checks
  • Actively participates in companies Continuous Improvement initiatives e.g. Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, SMED, 5 S, ISO, etc.
  • Maintains housekeeping to the standard defined in the Housekeeping and Hygiene procedure.
  • Safety: Near miss reporting. Attends all safety trainings. Can manage Chemical emergencies and act as key resource in shift during chemical spills and Chemical emergency.
  • Responsible for all the standard and special tools used in the area. Ensures effective utilization of tools and tackles and prevent misuse of same.
  • Responsible for area spoilage in washer and UVBRC. Analyses the spoilage on hourly basis and take swift actions.
  • Conducts quality tests in Washer and Cans as needed by Quality department and inputs in QAS. Responsible for can cleaning quality in washer. Monitors the washer parameters and controls in periodical basis.
  • Is trained in handling hazardous and toxic chemicals. Responsible for safe handling of washer chemicals. Responsible for proper operation and maintenance of washer chemical control system
  • Responsible for Smooth operation and Maintenance of UVBRC Unit. Follows the Standard / procedure for Operation and Maintenance.
  • Responsible for Washer drier operation and maintenance including oven cleaning. Can perform cleaning of ovens.
  • Conducts chemical cleaning / maintenance in washers / coolant systems including passivation along with engineering team.
  • Responsible to conduct maintenance in Compressor, Chillers, vacuum pumps, Air handling units. Boilers, Cooling towers.

Diploma in Chemical engineering

  • Must be able to work shifts and able to work extended hours on occasions when required.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to generate reports. Ability to read, understand and develop engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety work practises with hazardous and toxic chemicals.

Diploma in Mechanical engineering

  • Must be able to work shifts and able to work extended hours on occasions when required.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to generate reports. Ability to read, understand and develop engineering drawings.

Working knowledge of Health and Safety work practices such as safe lifting techniques for Heavy equipment.

Knowledge

Diploma in Chemical engineering

  • 3 Years Operation / maintenance experience in medium scale chemical plants dealing with acidic chemical process with heat exchangers, pumps, stainless steel piping’s etc. Surface treatment plant experience can also be considered.
  •  Hands on experience in operation and maintenance of chemical handling Equipment.
  • Experience in Water treatment: DI, RO, and waste water treatment
  • Experience in chemical labs for testing the quality / parameter for water / chemical contents – fluorides, acids, turbidity etc.

 

Diploma in Mechanical engineering

  • 3 Years Operation / maintenance experience Utilities equipment such as Atlas Copco compressors, vacuum pumps, Gas boilers, LPG Station, HVAC and Fire protection system.
  • LPG Handling Experience / Certification – can unload LPG from tankers safely.
  •  Hands on experience in maintenance of heavy equipment such as gearboxes Pumps, Heat Exchangers, Heavy production machines and Assemblies.
